Retainer Program

The SPOCS Retainer Program — Protect Your Smile for Years to Come.

Your orthodontic treatment is an investment. Retainers are how you protect it. Teeth have a natural tendency to shift back toward their original position after treatment — especially in the first few years. Retainers hold your results in place for life. The SPOCS Retainer Program makes sure you always have the retainers you need, at a fraction of the standard replacement cost.

Lost, broken, or ill-fitting retainers happen to almost everyone. With the SPOCS Retainer Program, a replacement retainer costs $50 per arch instead of the standard $225 per arch — for five full years after your treatment completes.

FSA and HSA funds are accepted for the Retainer Program enrollment fee and all replacement retainers. Orthodontic retention is a dentally necessary expense.

What the Program Saves You

The math is straightforward. If you replace retainers more than once over five years — which most patients do — the program pays for itself.

Most patients lose or break at least one retainer within the first 2 years of treatment completion. The program pays for itself with just two arch replacements.

Teeth Move. That’s Just Biology.

Orthodontic treatment moves your teeth into their ideal positions by applying carefully controlled forces over time. When treatment ends, the bone and soft tissue surrounding your teeth are still adapting to those new positions. Without a retainer, teeth will drift — sometimes significantly — especially in the first 12 months after treatment.

This is not a flaw in treatment. It is simply how teeth and bone work. The solution is retention: wearing your retainer consistently, especially in the first year, and keeping your retainers in good condition for life.

First 12 months

The most critical retention period. Wear your retainer every night without exception. This is when teeth are most likely to shift.

Years 1–3

Continue nightly wear. The bone around your teeth is still consolidating. Skipping nights occasionally is less risky at this stage, but consistency is still the best policy.

Year 3 and beyond

Many patients transition to wearing retainers a few nights per week. Dr. Mansour will guide you on the right schedule for your specific case.

For life

A retainer worn a few nights per week, indefinitely, is the most reliable way to preserve your orthodontic result long-term.

Types of Retainers at SPOCS

01

Clear Removable Retainers

Custom-fabricated clear retainers that fit snugly over your teeth. Virtually invisible when worn. Removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Most patients receive clear removable retainers at the end of treatment. These are the retainer type covered under the SPOCS Retainer Program at $50/arch replacement.

02

Bonded Fixed Retainers

A thin wire bonded to the back of your lower (and sometimes upper) front teeth. Completely invisible from the front. Stays in place permanently — no compliance required. Often used for lower front teeth where relapse risk is highest. Requires special flossing technique around the wire. Dr. Mansour recommends bonded retainers when they are clinically appropriate for your case.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the SPOCS Retainer Program cost?

Clear removable retainers typically last 1 to 3 years with regular use before they show wear, crack, or lose their fit. Bonded fixed retainers can last many years but may need repair if the wire comes loose. Having a replacement plan in place from day one is the smart approach.

The honest answer is yes — or at least for life, a few nights per week. Teeth shift throughout adulthood regardless of age. The first year after orthodontic treatment is the most critical retention period. Dr. Mansour gives you a specific retention protocol at your completion appointment.

Dr. Mansour prescribes retainers based on your individual case. Most SPOCS patients receive clear removable retainers. Some patients also receive a bonded fixed retainer on the lower front teeth for added long-term stability. Dr. Mansour explains your retention plan at your final appointment.
